This Week in Foul Balls: Baseball is Back and So Is the Foul Ball Fun (Week 1: April 1 – 9)
Well, it’s back. Welcome to the 2017 season version of “TWIFB Notes” (This Week in Foul Balls). In this weekly post, I look at the best and worst foul ball moments in Major League Baseball…and sometimes Minor League Baseball…and sometimes softball and high school baseball.
First, our running total of foul ball hits in the facial area, or what I call “Foul Ball Facials”, as they are reported ONLY on Twitter.
16 #MLB fans hit in 1st week
7 admit being distracted by phone (44%)
3 were ricochets
5 dove for a foul ball
Note that 44% of those hit in the face–via ONLY Twitter reports–admitted they were distracted by their phone. That should speak for itself.
Alex Gordon of the Kansas City Royals tops the list of awesomeness for his behavior during the first week of Major League Baseball. This moment stems from yet ANOTHER jackass adult stealing a ball from kids. Okay. To be fair the guy just reached out and snagged it, but those kids were right behind him and they totally deserved that shot. BUT Gordon decides to do them a solid. Check out the video in the article.
