And the foul ball fun keeps on going. Welcome back to this week’s version of “TWIFB Notes” (This Week in Foul Balls) in which hornets are features, not the Charlotte Hornets, but pissed off fling bugs with stingers. In this weekly post, I look at the best and worst foul ball moments in Major League Baseball…and sometimes Minor League Baseball…and sometimes softball and high school baseball.
First, our running total of foul ball hits in the facial area, or what I call “Foul Ball Facials”, as they are reported ONLY on Twitter. This is the count after three weeks of play
- 37 #MLB fans hit in head area in 36 days
- 14 admit being distracted by phone (37.8%)
- 3 were ricochets
- 1 too drunk to move
- 8 injured diving for a foul ball

OH NO! This totally sucks! Did you hear about the foul ball that hit a hornets nest at a New York Yankees game? Ok. So this was Yankees story was satire and not real, but it’s still gets in the weekly HoF because it’s funny.
At one of last week’s Toronto Blue Jays – Tampa Bay Rays games a young Rays fan made a very nice grab on a foul ball. This kid has a nice vertical leap, beating two adults, one of whom can be seen trying to steal it from the kid. What’s wrong with people? Kid makes the snag, you back off and let him have it.
